The architecture follows a simple logic: the local copy brings a file or a server back in minutes; the remote replica exists for the scenario where the whole site is lost — fire, theft, ransomware. And none of it matters without the third element: periodic, documented restore tests that turn "we have backup" into "we know it restores".
